PEERSONAL UPDATES
I was born in Kozhikode, grew up in Dubai and graduated from Columbia University in 2010 with a degree in Anthropology. I am a recipient of a 2018 Creative Capital Arts Writers Grant in the shortform category, and I have been profiled in Elle India and New York Magazine. I run a biweekly newsletter—warm & weird links, culture diaries and featured creatures—called niͥghͪᴛⷮliͥfeͤ, and also maintain a very occasional tinyletter of personal updates here.
I was formerly the founding Editor-in-chief of THE STATE, and have previously held editorial positions at Momus, The New Inquiry, Ibraaz, Brownbook and Guernica. I am currently working on a collection of essays about where oil meets water in the Arabian Gulf and how we became postwestern.
I am currently based in Dubai. I can be found on social media @cnqmdi
